Rompetrol and Dăruieşte Aripi arranges the first pediatric anesthesia room for MRI within the Bucharest Oncological Institute

Rompetrol and Dăruieşte Aripi Association have completed the construction works and endowment with equipment of the MRI anesthesia room within the Bucharest Oncological Institute, with an investment of 30,000 euros. The beneficiaries are hundreds of children from all over the country, hospitalized annually with oncological diseases, who thus avoid traveling to other hospitals and follow in the same place, free of charge, the entire program of medical tests and specialized treatment.

“Many of our investments this year have been directed to support the medical sector and many of the beneficiaries of our projects are children - either through health projects, or to support the online education system. This year we have further streamlined internal costs in order to redirect additional funds from the company to sectors with acute needs of society, and this project is a symbolic gesture of Rompetrol, for Christmas, on behalf of our business partners, to help more children facing oncology treatment, and the fears and risks of the pandemic”- Iskander Abdibaitov, Chief Officer Corporate Development of KMG International.

The modernized space, an area of 50 square meters, meets all the requirements of an anesthesia-intensive care structure, with its own air conditioning and medical gas installation. Until now, MRI examination in young children, in the absence of an adequate space, could not be performed at the Bucharest Oncological Institute, although there were specialized medical staff. The pediatric oncology department of this hospital is the largest in the country, the pathology of patients being exclusively solid tumors, and MRI examination is essential in the decision on chemotherapy protocols, as well as in the disease monitoring process.

Before the pandemic, I used to go daily to the pediatric oncology department to better understand the situation of these children on the spot, and Dr. Monica Dragomir, head of the department, pointed out to me the lack of a structure to serve the administration of general anesthesia for MRI examination of children at the hospital. We decided to start the project, and now the procedure has become completely free and safe, the children being treated in one place. Traveling to other places for MRI also came with an additional risk of infection with Sars-Cov 2, and with costs for the family. We thank Rompetrol for their support, for this successful project together”- Alina Pătrăhău, founder of the Dăruieşte Aripi Association.

KMG International through its partnerships with the Foundation for SMURD, Dăruieşte Aripi Association, Romanian Red Cross supported this year the communities of Constanţa, Prahova and Bucharest in managing the covid-19 pandemic, by donating fuel for the Ambulance Service, the purchase of medical supplies (masks, gloves), medical equipment and ICU beds, reagents to determine the virus type (genome analysis to identify national specificity and potential genetic mutations, by the Cantacuzino Institute), a 12-bed mobile intensive care unit that can be used anywhere in the country during the pandemic period, but also in situations of calamities and disasters. In addition, the Group provided fuel to various NGOs for the provision of specialized medical care at patients' homes (Hospice Casa Speranţei, Dăruieşte Aripi Association) and for the safe transportation of patients from home to hospital, for medical treatment (through the Magic Association).
