As of this month, the Rompetrol Group is a member of CONCAWE (Conservation of Clean Air and Water in Europe) - international organization established in 1963 that researches on several aspects regarding the environment protection in the field of oil products: quality of fuels, CO2 emissions, air and water quality, soil contamination, wastes, problems related to labor health and safety, as well as the responsibility of managing oil products and the performances of transnational oil-ducts.
As a result of this association, Rompetrol will have one representative in the Science Board, one in the Management Group and one in the General Meeting of this organization. This recognition has a very large impact regarding the alignment of the company to the most important tendencies in the refining industry, taking into consideration that among the CONCAWE members there are international companies such as Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ENI, PKN Orlen, Tamoil, TOTAL, etc.
CONCAWE develops several partnerships and keeps in touch with industrial associations in the filed and with international organizations that have the status of UNECE observer (United Nations Economic Council for Europe), of the OSPAR commission (for the protection of the marine environment in the North-East of the) and of the WHO (World Health Organization). CONCAWE contributes to all the European Commission’s initiatives relevant in the field, the vast majority of the oil companies with activities in Europe being members of this organization.
Once with the affiliation to CONCAWE, all the companies that are members of the Rompetrol Group will also benefit from assistance for the conformation to the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) European directive. As a result, all the chemical substances used in the Group’s activities, starting with raw mater and ending with gasoline and motor oil, are registered and authorized.
The REACH directive has replaced an entire series of regulations and directive norms referring to the existing substances and to the notification of new substances. The basic elements of REACH are the registration and authorization. After the expiry of some limit terms established by the REACH directive, the substances – including oil substances, cannot be produced or distributed on the market unless they have been registered. According to the REACH directive, the term for the finalization of this registration process is November 30, 2010.
