KMG International supports the first mobile dental office in Romania

KMG International supported the initiative of the “Zâna Merciluţă” (Tooth Fairy) mobile dental office in July in several rural areas of Constanţa County, offering free dental treatment to over 100 children coming from Mihai Viteazu, Independenţa and other villages in Constanţa County.

“This year, Petromidia, the most important asset of our company, celebrates its 40th anniversary. We continue to be one of the most important economic actors in the region and at the same time we want to constantly contribute to improving the quality of life for the local community. This initiative is aimed at offering dental services to children who have no access to such benefits, which are of utmost importance from the earliest years. The quality of medical services in the region is a priority for us and we remain committed to improving them.” Alexey Golovin, Chief Officer, Legal & Corporate Affairs, KMG International.

The services provided by the mobile office included prophylaxis and dental treatment, and children also received oral care kits. Moreover, the two dentists present at the event, together with the volunteers of Zâna Merciluţă, held interactive dental brushing sessions in the schools of Mihai Viteazu and Independenţa for parents and children. The Zâna Merciluţă team also arrived at CS Farul Constanţa, the Weightlifting Section, where junior athletes from disadvantaged environments received free dental treatment.

“From the moment we launched this mobile dental office in 2017, we understood that behind our mission there was a real problem: in Romania, more than 75% of children aged 6 to 11 have problems with their temporary teeth and most children in the villages do not have access to a dental office. That is why Zâna Merciluţă supports the children from poor rural areas, giving them free dental treatment, with the help of our volunteer dentists. This year, together with KMG International, we managed to reach the villages of Constanţa County where the nearest dental office is at over 60 kilometres away.” Alina Ţiplea, President of the Merci Charity Boutique Association.

79% of the children treated on this trip had never been to the dentist. The value of the treatments exceeds RON 33,000. In the next period, the mobile dental office will also reach Prahova County, with the support of KMG International.

About Zâna Merciluţă

“Zâna Merciluţă” is the first mobile dental office that offers free services in Romania. The project was initiated by the Merci Charity Boutique, a non-profit organisation that focuses on supporting humanitarian causes, mainly children with medical and social problems.

The mobile dental office makes visits to rural areas to provide children with dental prophylaxis and treatment, but also to paediatric oncology departments. The organisation initiated the creation of a legal framework to allow the activity of mobile medical offices in Romania.
