150 KMG International employees, from the Group’s headquarters in Bucharest and the Petromidia platform, planted 2,200 willows and oleaster trees today in Corbu village, Constanta county.
"It is the responsibility of the company and our employees to protect the environment and pass on to future generations a culture of environmental protection, by following the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, environmental and social. We pay special attention to areas surrounding the Petromidia refinery, located near the Black Sea, Lake Siutghiol, the Danube Delta biosphere and the Midia channel ecosystem, as well as the localities of Navodari, Corbu and Constanta. Our goal is to operate in compliance with the highest standards and constantly contribute to environmental conservation and development of local communities through responsible actions "- said Yedil Utekov, General Manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.
The volunteering activity was carried out by both employees and community members, along with local authorities and journalists. The tree species planted were recommended by environmental authorities, based on the soil characteristics and climate in the Dobrogea region.
Tree planting is just one of the initiatives developed by KMG International in Constanta, as part of a long-term collaboration between the Group and local communities. Among the completed projects there are the establishment of the first respiratory rehabilitation center within the Constanta Pneumophtisiology Hospital, the rehabilitation and equipment of the dental office that serves the schools in the city of Năvodari, the implementation of a lighting system in the Grigore Moisil School in Navodari using photovoltaic solar panels, as well as multiple clean-up actions of degraded areas.
In more than 35 years of existence, Petromidia refinery has processed more than 100 million tons of raw material, the largest amount of oil processed by any Romanian refinery. Rompetrol Rafinare, the main asset of KMG International, operates the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploiesti refineries, being the sole producer of polymers in the country.
