Between October 2019 and October 2020, KMG International will support a national dental health program carried out by Merci Charity Association, aiming to improve the access to dental healthcare for children in rural areas. 1,000 children from 40 localities from Constanta, Prahova and Galati counties will receive free dental care with the help of a mobile dental office, the first one of this kind in Romania.
"We recently celebrated 40 years of activity for our Petromidia refinery, one of the main development engines in the region. For 40 years, we have been involved in the community, investing in relevant social projects. Health care, especially at a young age, should be accessible to anyone, no matter where they come from. Therefore, on this occasion, we are supporting a national dental health program, which aims to provide dental care to 1000 children coming from disadvantaged backgrounds from 40 localities across Romania, including Constanta county.” Alexey Golovin, Chief Legal and Corporate Affairs Officer.
13% of the total number of dental offices in the country are located in rural areas, although 46% of the population of Romania lives in rural communities. Starting with October 1st, with the support of the dentists who are part of the association's volunteering program, the mobile office developed in 2017 will offer free oral prophylaxis and dental treatment services in 40 villages from Constanta, Prahova and Galati counties.
Through this partnership, KMG International and Merci Charity aim to improve the lives of children aged 4 to 14 years from 40 rural communities through oral care education, prophylaxis and nutrition advice:
- Improving the oral health of 1.000 children through oral prophylaxis interventions in the association's mobile dental office, dental brushing and nutrition sessions conducted in schools with the support of volunteering dental practitioners.
- Informing 2.000 parents and members of the beneficiaries' families about the rights of the child to free interventions in dental offices that have contracts in place with the County’s medical insurance fund.
- Improving the quality of life in 40 villages by facilitating access to free dental care and treatment services.
- Offering 1.000 dental consultations, 2.000 treated caries, 3.000 dental seals and 5.000 saved teeth.

Merci Charity Association is a non-profit organization established in 2012, whose purpose is to support humanitarian causes through mobile dental health and education projects, having children with medical and social problems as focus. The association owns two mobile dental offices and aims to create a network of mobile dental offices to promote mobile medicine solutions in the long term.
