Rompetrol Rafinare invests USD 22.6 million in expanding its oil products transit capacity

Rompetrol Rafinare, a member company of The Rompetrol Group, will invest until 2009 approximately USD 22.6 million in order to increase, by approximately 350%, its oil products transit capacity through berth 9.

The expansion works will begin this month, after receiving in June the approval from the Environment Protection Agency of Constanta. The works will be performed by the General Contractor of the Rompetrol Group, Rominserv, and are to be completed in  August 2009.

The project will allow berth docking of both sea ships with a maximum capacity of 10,000 deadweight tons and of tank barges of maximum 2,000 deadweight tons.

Rompetrol Rafinare also owns in administration berths 1, 2, 3 and 4, via which are supplied the necessary raw materials, and the monthly transit rate is 100,000 -120,000 tons.

The project supports the development plans of the company, which targets the attainment, until 2009, of a refining capacity of 5 million tons of crude per year, compared to 3.7 million tons at present, and the positioning among the first 25 refineries in Europe. In the mentioned period, Rompetrol Rafinare investments will reach approximately USD 250 million, and will be implemented under conditions of maximum technological efficiency and environment protection, according to the current international norms (IPPC – European directive on the Integrated Pollution Prevention Control).

Since the privatization of Petromidia Refinery in 2001, the Rompetrol Group has allocated approximately USD 225 million in the implementation of technological and environmental investments, out of which approximately USD 40 million have been direct investments in environment protection.
